The Valley Industrial Association (VIA) will host their next luncheon at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at the Valencia Country Club, 27330 Tourney Road, Valencia.

The luncheon will focus on transportation and mobility as they continue to be top issues for employers in the Santa Clarita Valley, relating to everything from reliable, well planned roads to serve a growing city to identifying ways to carry employees to and from work to the need for additional bus and train routes.

Additionally, the workforce is in constant motion traveling in and out of the SCV daily. The ability to recruit and retain a skilled workforce relies heavily on adequate and readily available transportation options.

Joining the luncheon will be Ann Kerman, Constituent Program Manager, Metro Regional Communications and Adrian Aguilar, Interim Transit Coordinator, Santa Clarita Transit.

Aguilar will discuss Santa Clarita Transit's proactive approach to transportation, including the way the department addressed the recent cancellation of two routes from Sylmar that carried employees to work in the Santa Clarita Valley. An overview of how riders utilize transit services will be presented, along with ways diesel buses are being phased out in favor of other fuel types to help Santa Clarita Transit comply with mandates for reduction of greenhouse gases.

Kerman will provide information regarding Metro, including their 25 year plan, train availability, and tax credits employers may be able to gain by encouraging and covering the costs of employees taking advantage of Metro's transportation options. As part of their transportation mix, Metro offers vanpooling opportunities with guaranteed-ride-home service, in case of emergency or illness for those who are part of the vanpool.

The event is by reservation only and must be made no later than Thursday, Sept. 10.

Cost for members is $40 while non-members cost $50.

When covering reserved seats at the door, cash or check only. Credit card payments may be made in advancement through the VIA Office.

"No shows" or cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance will be billed. If space is available, attendees without reservations will be accommodated and assessed an additional $10 fee for the luncheon.

Special Drawing Prizes for this event courtesy of: Premier America Credit Union, GAMEPLANZ, Proforma Graphix Unlimited, Priority One Credit Union, Signs by Tomorrow and La Quinta Inn & Suites.

Sponsors for this luncheon include All Covered, LBW Insurance & Financial Services and the city of Santa Clarita.
