The city's been pushing for a little extra pride this week, leading up to Saturday.

It's Pride Week, a weeklong series of community involvement events that started Sunday and wraps up with Graffiti Wipe Out Day this Saturday.

Saturday's event starts at 8 a.m. and lasts until noon, grouping volunteers into teams to paint over graffiti around the city. The city will be providing cleanup materials, and city staff will be coordinating and supervising the graffiti removal.

On Monday, a group of English language students from the ELS Language Center, representing six countries, were out in the community cleaning up trash. Free T-shirts and trash bags are provided to those who volunteer for the trash removal duties.

The different projects that volunteers can take a part in throughout Pride Week have included trash removal, flower planting, graffiti removal and weed pulling.

For more information or to volunteer for Pride Week, call the city's Community Services Division at (661) 255-4965.
