A man and a woman were in custody after they allegedly tried to rob the Ralphs grocery store in Canyon Country Sunday evening.

According to officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, the man and woman attempted to leave the store  at about 6 p.m. without paying for a six-pack of alcohol they were carrying when security officers stopped them.

The woman proceeded to hit the officers with the six-pack while the man ran away, sheriff’s officials said. He was apprehended at the Canyon Car Wash about 45 minutes later.

They were to be charged with strong-arm robbery, which is defined as a robbery involving physical force and includes the element of assault.

The man was booked at the SCV Sheriff’s Station, but the woman was found to be pregnant and was booked at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
