Santa Clarita City Councilman Bob Kellar has officially given his support to Michael Cruz in his November bid to become director of the Newhall County Water District.

"I met with him and we talked extensively, I think he will do a good job," Kellar said. "I liked his personal philosophy and his willingness to be a participant of the water board."

Cruz is also being backed by Bill Kennedy, the Santa Clarita Planning Commissioner.

"I am honored to receive the support of two fine public servants who have been involved with our business community for so long," Cruz said.

Despite the rough times Kellar said he believes things will be on the rise with Cruz in place.

"Overall Newhall has come a long way from where we have been in the past. We have had to deal with some serious issues. I'm looking for Cruz and everybody to work together and take on the responsibility to get the necessary water for a reasonable price," Kellar said.

Cruz said he understands the peril as well.

"The availability of our water supply during these uncertain times is something I will fight everyday to preserve. Our quality of life for Santa Clarita families and businesses depends on it," he said.

Cruz is running against Kathryn Colley and water district directors Maria Gutzeit and B.J. Atkins.
