Featuring pieces like "Moonlight Serenade" by Glenn Miller and "Pink Panther" by Henry Mancini, the award-winning College of the Canyons Studio Jazz Ensemble is holding a POPS! Concert on May 16. The band will play popular tunes and big band swing music.

Other works to be played include "Cachita" by Rafael Hernandez, and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," where COC vocal instructor and owner of the Vibe Performing Arts Studio in Santa Clarita, Andrea Vibe, will join as the vocalist.

Under the direction of KC Manji, the ensemble has won awards in several festivals, including first place in the community college division in the 45th annual Reno Jazz Festival at the University of Nevada, Reno, in April 2007. It also won first place in the college level division at the Coronado Jazz Festival in a previous year.

The concert will take place at the Santa Clarita Valley Performing Arts Center on COC's Valencia campus at 7:30 p.m. Students from the Santa Clarita, San Fernando and Antelope Valleys will be featured.
