SCV Green will host a "Witness to Wildlife" interactive community hike on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 8:30 a.m. for Patagonia in the San Gabriel - Castaic habitat corridor in Soledad Canyon near Santa Clarita.

SCV Green is a new Land Trust dedicated to open space and land conservation in the Santa Clarita Valley area of the Southern California's South Coast Ecoregion.

The linkages forming the South Coast Ecoregion were designed by nature. They were then identified and mapped out by scientists. Now it's the local community's turn to decide what these places mean to us and what we want them to be in relationship to the places we live in.

The hike will be a three-mile program along the Pacific Crest Trail, and will start at the National Forest Service's Indian Canyon Trailhead at the intersection of Indian Canyon Road and Soledad Canyon Road at 8:30 a.m.

Activities will be set up along the trail to create an interactive storytelling experience with participants. This is designed to develop concepts and ideas for what the habitat corridor is in the imagination of local community members.

This will be a fun day for groups of friends and family and the content generated will be used to raise awareness for this important habitat corridor throughout the region.

Light refreshments will be provided at the end of the hike, but participants should bring sun screen, a hat and extra water if needed.

The National Forest Service requires a $5 day-pass for parking, which can be purchased at the general store just before the Trailhead on Soledad Canyon Road.

Partners for the event include the Community Hiking Club, SC Wildlands and Wookey Works Productions.
