The city of Santa Clarita is sponsoring its second annual food drive to benefit the SCV Food Pantry.

During September, Santa Clarita residents may drop off non-perishable food items to designated locations across the city to be donated directly to the SCV Food Pantry.

Collection bins for non-perishable food donations will be set up at five city facilities: City Hall, 23920 Valencia Boulevard; the city's Sports Complex, 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway; the city's Transit Maintenance Facility, 28250 Constellation Road; Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road; and the city's Corporate Yard, 25663 Avenue Stanford.

"September is Hunger Action Month and the city of Santa Clarita is partnering with the SCV Food Pantry to help get the word out and provide more drop-off locations for the Summer Food Drive," Mayor Frank Ferry said. "No child should go to bed hungry and community members' non-perishable donations will assist the SCV Food Pantry to help keep those less fortunate in the Santa Clarita Valley from going hungry."

Non-perishable items may also be directly donated to the SCV Food Pantry, 24133 Railroad Ave. in Newhall 91321. Donations will be accepted during business hours from 9 a.m. to noon from Monday through Thursday and the third Friday of every month.

The SCV Food Pantry has been distributing food to low-income residents of the valley since 1986. It relies on donations from the community to provide supplemental food on a short-term basis to qualified, local residents.

More than 900 local seniors receive food throught he Food Pantry's Senior Outreach Program and, in 2008, the organization distributed supplemental food to more than 5,500 SCV residents, more than 2,000 of them children.
