Parents and cells make school zones dangerous

OK, I give up. It must be that my life is more empty or less important than other Santa Clarita Valley parents.

For years I have tried to figure out what is so important that a parent needs to take a cell phone call at 7:30 a.m. (without the hands-free option, of course) while they are dropping their child off at school.

So I need to ask: Can someone write in and let me know what is so important that you cannot wait 10 minutes for that call so that you can give full attention to dropping your child off and full attention to not hitting my child when I drop him off?

And if it is a needed call, can you at least use a hands-free device so that you can have both hands on the wheel when you swerve to try to miss my child when you figure out that you are driving through the crosswalk without stopping?

I would appreciate it.
