Make this country great

Gary Horton must have his head in a very dark place ("Fear shouldn't be a pre-existing condition," The Signal, Aug. 19).

He is under the mistaken idea that the Postal Service is in competition with FedEx.

Let me point out the differences. FedEx is a money-making company that wouldn't be in business if it didn't make money. The Postal Service is a financial pit that wouldn't make money if stamps were $44 a pop. Congress has "franking" rights that may add to the load that is putting them under.

There have only been a few government-run programs that have weathered the test of time. Social Security, disability, Medicare and Medicaid. None of these programs were instituted by anyone close to this generation of law-givers.

They are only allowing them to go broke.

Where is the money coming from to fund the new health care plan? I'll go along with the new universal health care plan as soon as all the congressmen, senators and the president buy into it as their provider.

As far as I know the Marlboro Man is a liberal. Most conservatives quit smoking years ago!

As for Sarah Palin, I wish people would just leave her alone and let her drill some oil wells up there and get a little relief from the price at the gas pump.
