The summer 2008 Concerts in the Park series will feature a mixed bag of musical talent onstage at Central Park in Saugus each Saturday from July 5 to Aug. 23, a change from the all-"tribute" band lineup of cover bands in the 2007 series.

Starting at 7 p.m., sounds at the outdoor concerts will range from American musical standards performed by the Santa Clarita Symphony to original new-wave rockabilly by the popular local band The Craze to the uplifting rock of U2 tribute band Hollywood U2, which played Central Park in 2006 and is back by popular demand.

The city of Santa Clarita's Arts & Entertainment and Parks & Recreation staffs produce the Concerts in the Park each summer. The concerts are free to the public, and all ages are welcome. Concert-goers are invited to take blankets, lawn chairs and picnic dinners and enjoy the sunsets.

Food, refreshments and sweets will be available at a concession stand to be operated by Lampost Pizza. Sponsors are Power Honda, The Signal and American Medical Response; KHTS-AM 1220 radio is a partner.

Videotaping is verboten at all concerts. Alcoholic beverages and BBQ grills are also not allowed. The park is a smoke-free zone, as are all city parks.

Here's the Concerts in the Parks schedule:

July 5: Santa Clarita Symphony
On the July 4th weekend, the SCV's only all-professional symphony presents a salute to great American Musicals with songs from Rogers and Hammerstein, Bernstein and Sondheim, and Tin Pan Alley composers George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin, plus a patriotic salute to John Philip Sousa.

July 12: No Duh
No Duh captures the complete essence of a Gwen Stefani & No Doubt concert, mixing their music with nostalgic visuals, stylings, and props from their videos, complete with costumes and a sassy sense of humor.

July 19: Bonne Musique Zydeco
Infectious dance music, rhythms and an uninhibited beat that will keep your feet and body moving, and raise your heart rate.

July 26: Hollywood U2
Having toured many countries, Hollywood U2 has the experience and all the elements to emulate one of the greatest rock bands in the world like no other. They deliver true sentiment and energy with extremely accurate interpretations of U2's greatest songs.

Aug. 2: The Durell Coleman Soul Revue
Ex-"Star Search" winner Durell Coleman and his band have opened for Earth Wind & Fire, The Temptations, and Anita Baker. With multiple lead vocalists, choreographed dance steps, and a powerful horn section, the Revue performs classic R&B, Motown and dance hits.

Aug. 9: The Craze
An irresistibly great show where girls scream, hipsters dance, and everyone has fun. The Craze's influences range from'50s rockabilly and '60s classic rock to '80s new wave, and their excellent original material makes them contenders for wider fame.

Aug. 16: Ken O'Malley & The Twilight Lords
Journey to the heart and soul of Ireland with a band that will fill Central Park with classic American and British roots rock as well as Irish favorites.

Aug. 23: Queen Nation
This is an authentic and critically acclaimed re-creation of vintage Queen, with vocalist Joe Retta capturing Freddie Mercury's voice, style and mannerisms, and guitarist Mike McMannus replicating Brian May's soaring guitar riffs.

Central Park's address is 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, Santa Clarita 91351.
