The city of Santa Clarita invites community members to attend the annual "Celebrating YOUth Sports Festival," held Saturday, August 29, at Central Park. The Festival will begin with Opening Ceremonies at 10 a.m. and will continue until 1:30 p.m.

The highly anticipated, no-cost event will feature a raffle, free games for sports enthusiasts, and activities presented by local professional and semi-professional sports teams. Festival food will also be available for purchase.

The Celebrating YOUth Sports Festival will feature numerous activities in four interactive zones. The Wild World of Sports Zone will feature the Clipper's Shootaround and the Clippers' Spirit Dance Team, presented by the Los Angeles Clippers. Guests will play ball on the Clippers' travelling regulation-size court, cheered on by the Clippers' own spirit team.

The Wild World of Sports Zone will also feature games like Big Ball Volleyball, Soccer Shootout, Home Run Derby, Big Glove Boxing, presented by the Newhall Community Center and Pee Wee Golf presented by Vista Valencia Golf Course, who will also bring a professional golfer to the event. Baseball enthusiasts will enjoy throwing fastballs in the JetHawk's Fast Pitch, presented by semi-professional baseball team, the Lancaster JetHawks.

"The city is committed to providing local youth with quality sports and recreation opportunities," said Mayor Frank Ferry. "The Celebrating YOUth Sports Festival is designed to bring the entire sports community together to recognize their productive commitment to sports activities in a fun way."

Local kids will enjoy the Children's Zone, where they can participate in face painting, shoot hoops and go for the goal with inflatable basketball and soccer games, and more. Football fanatics will love participating in the Football Fun Zone, featuring a 40-yard Dash, QB Challenge sponsored by Dick's Sporting Goods, Agility Course, and a Through the Uprights field goal challenge.

Attendees can stay cool in the Make a Splash Zone with Dunk the Lifeguard games, a Life Saving Ring Toss exercise, and Water Polo Accuracy Challenge. In addition to activities provided in the Festival's four zones, the event will also feature Magic Mountain's Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck characters, puppet shows, parachute fun, and a massive water balloon toss.

The Celebrating YOUth Sports Festival will also include a raffle with total prizes valued at approximately $4,000 and 100 percent of the proceeds dedicated to the S.C.O.R.E. program, which provides scholarships to underprivileged youth to participate in city youth sports programs. Enter to win prizes such as Sea World and Disneyland Park Entrance and Meal Voucher Tickets; Magic Mountain tickets; VIP Parking Passes and VIP Tent admission for the finale of Concerts in the Park, featuring Boogie Nights; soccer equipment provided by Planet Soccer; professional NFL, NBA and MLB gear provided by Krave Sports; a 2010 All-Access Summer Fun

The Celebrating YOUth Sports Festival is held to recognize and celebrate all local youth sports participants, as well as their achievements, and commitment to a healthy lifestyle. The event is designed to bring the city's young athletes of all abilities and levels of expertise together to celebrate!
