LOS ANGELES COUNTY -- Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich will host a "Contracting Connections" workshop on Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 9:30 a.m. at Antelope Valley College, 3041 West Avenue K, Lancaster 93536.

The workshop aimed to inform small businesses about the purchasing and contracting opportunities with local, state and federal agencies.

"Small businesses are the engine of economic growth and the backbone of our society," said Antonovich. "In 1997, the County determined that too many of its contracts were going to the same companies - most of them large corporations," Antonovich said.

"To address the cost-effectiveness of these contracts and the problems facing entrepreneurs and smaller companies, my office initiated the County Office of Small Business," he said.

The Office of Small Business serves as a source of information on procurement opportunities, certification, financing and technical assistance for small business owners.

"We will continue to ensure the County's procurement systems remain fair, open, and easily understood," Antonovich said. "We look forward to working with our small businesses to create effective public-private partnerships that serve our community and improve our quality of life."
