So you say the best and the brightest should run for the William S. Hart Union High School District board (Signal editorial, "A school board election like no other," July 19)!

Suzan Solomon is the best choice to serve on the Hart School board. She has the experience to get a high school built in Castaic.

As a Newhall School District board member she worked to get Pico Canyon Elementary built to alleviate overcrowding at Stevenson Ranch Elementary, the only elementary school in the district on the west side of Interstate 5.

The opening of Pico Canyon in 2003 allowed for the Newhall School District to leave behind the multi-track year-round calendar.

Suzan Solomon was also there when another elementary school was needed to prevent further overcrowding as the Westridge community was being built and plans were being drawn for the first phases of Newhall Ranch.

She and the Newhall school board negotiated for the district's 10th school, Oak Hills Elementary School.

These two schools were built at a time when a second elementary school on the west side of the freeway was not planned until phase four of Stevenson Ranch was built.

Phase four is still not built.

Suzan Solomon and the Newhall School District recognized the significant impact and urgency of the much-needed schools and worked collaboratively with the Stevenson Ranch community, including the West Ranch Town Council (formerly the Stevenson Ranch Town Council), Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich and of course Lennar to get the job done.

If we want a high school in Castaic, Suzan Solomon is the Hart School board nominee who will work to get it done.
