Historical Society screens 'Wizard of Oz' Saturday night

The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society will screen the beloved 1939 family classic "The Wizard of Oz" on Saturday, Aug. 1 at 8 p.m. as part of the society's "Flickers at the Junction" film series.

The film will be shown OUTDOORS (weather permitting) at the historic Saugus Train Station in Heritage Junction, Newhall. Suggested donation is $5, which includes free popcorn!

The film features Judy Garland as Dorothy, supported by an all-star cast including Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr and Frank Morgan, with Billie Burke, Margaret Hamilton, Charles Grapewin, Clara Blandick, and the Singer Midgets as the Munchkins.

The film was nominated for several Academy Awards including Best Picture, and won the Oscar for the soundtrack classic "Over the Rainbow."

Gates open at 7 p.m. and the film begins at dusk (around 8 p.m.). Please bring lawn chairs and blankets.

The Saugus Train Station is located at Heritage Junction (inside William S. Hart Park) at 24107 Newhall Ave. (formerly San Fernando Road), Newhall 91321.
