An Agua Dulce motorist who allegedly slammed into a local bicyclist — leaving the biker paralyzed from the waist down — has been booked on a felony hit-and-run charge and released on bail.

Emilio Ramirez, 37, was booked Thursday night at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and released the same night on $50,000 bail, a deputy in the jailor’s office confirmed.

On the morning of July 3, Ramirez was driving north on a rural stretch of Sierra Highway when he allegedly hit Kevin Mather, 26, of Saugus.

Mather suffered spinal injuries. After 12 hours of surgery he remained unable to move his legs. He has begun physical therapy at a Northridge hospital.

Ramirez reportedly fled the scene before returning and telling responding CHP officers he had been driving the vehicle that hit the bicyclist.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office filed an arrest warrant on Thursday.
