Climate change hysteria

In response to Lynne Plambeck's July 2 column (Opinion, "Global warming, air pollution and children's lungs"): Climate-change legislation is nothing but an excuse used by nanny-government statists to seize power from the people, destroy our economy and attempt social engineering on a massive and never-before-seen scale.

Just look at Plambeck's own column: get rid of your SUV, buy a road-gnat car, ride the bus or a bike.

First of all, the climate's always changing. Ten thousand years ago, a mere blink in geological time, this entire valley was buried under almost a mile of ice and woolly mammoths and saber-toothed cats were part of the local fauna.

Thank God for "climate change."

The only way these statisticians' arguments work is if the climate is a static system - and it's not. It's in a state of constant change and flux.

One volcanic eruption alone, Mt. St. Helens, threw more pollutants into the air than mankind has in his entire history. Krakatoa in the 19th century was even bigger, and we've got several active volcanos right now that could go at any time.

Mars' ice caps are shrinking. Too many SUVs there?

These Gore-istas like to say "the debate is over," but that's only to try to stifle dissent and ridicule.

More than 33,000 scientists who specialize in these matters have signed a petition objecting to this whole line of dogma.

And make no mistake; this climate-change hysteria is a new religion. If you dissent, you're subjected to ridicule and worse, including job actions and suspension of government research grants. Coersion in its worst form.

In his book "State of Fear," Michael Crichton completely debunked this hysteria in a clear and entertaining manner, including a treatise in the end illustrating the flaws in scientific methodology used by the promoters of this scam.

Read up on this. Do some research. Get Crichton's book. Don't let these fanatics get away with this.

Then put the pressure on your Congress critters to block this legislation which has the potential to destroy our economy.
