Local sheriff’s deputies assisted an off-duty Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy in detaining either a “drunk or insane” man at gunpoint Saturday afternoon at Sierra Highway and Sand Canyon Road, according to Sgt. Brian Allen of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The man was walking out in the middle of traffic, “basically trying to attack the cars as they went by,” Allen said.

The man resisted when deputies tried to handcuff him but was arrested without any “real incident or injury,” Allen said.

The 24-year-old Canyon Country man was taken into custody for attempted carjacking and felony and misdemeanor vandalism, Allen said.
