A group from Crossroads Community Church traveled to the Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles to serve the kids through vacation Bible school activities.

With many local churches in Valencia doing vacation Bible schools during the summer, young families have plenty of options for their kids.

Crossroads Community Church decided to do a Bible school as well, but they decided not to hold it at their church building in the Valencia Industrial Center. They decided that they wouldn't even hold it in Valencia at all.

They decided to take vacation Bible school to some kids who didn't have the same kind of choices that kids in Valencia have.

The week of June 22-June 26, a group from Crossroads went down to the Union Rescue Mission in the heart of downtown Los Angeles to serve the kids who live there.

The volunteers went bearing vacation Bible school shirts graciously donated for the Union Rescue Mission by Christ Lutheran Church.
And they did all the usual activities: games, songs, crafts, stories and snacks. They held them and hugged them and helped them with their juice boxes, and told them about Christ's love for them as they modeled it first hand.

The Union Rescue Mission provides a comprehensive array of emergency and long-term services to its guests, including: food, shelter, clothing, medical and dental care, recovery programs, transitional housing, legal assistance, education, counseling and job training to needy men, women, children and families.

While their kids were safe at Bible school, one family was able to acquire more permanent housing outside the mission, and another was able to get a job.

The mission is a light in a dark place, and everyone on the Crossroads team was so honored and blessed to serve with them.

The kids ran us ragged, but seeing a huge smile break out on their faces brought such incredible joy.

The church plans to continue to minister there in the future.
