LOS ANGELES COUNTY - To enhance fire service for the residents of the Santa Clarita Valley, Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich announced that the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the construction of Fire Station 128 at 28450 Whites Canyon Road in Santa Clarita.

The 9,600 square-foot fire station will be operational in April of 2011 and will consist of a two-bay apparatus room, main office, day room, kitchen, exercise room, and dormitory quarters for seven personnel.

The fire station will incorporate the latest sustainable building design elements including energy efficient light fixtures with timer controls; the facility heating, ventilation, and cooling system will utilize an energy management control system. Additionally, the station will employ water-efficient fixtures in the restrooms and the exterior site landscaping areas will be constructed using drought tolerant plants.

The estimated final construction cost is about $9.4 million - over $2.5 million dollars less than the previously approved estimate of nearly $12 million.
