A long time ago, at every beach there was a lighthouse. The lighthouse's purpose was to guide the sailors. When a storm was darkening the skies and the sailors could not find their way in the middle of the ocean, the lighthouse was their salvation.

A long time ago, there were places called plazas. In these plazas, philosophers used to congregate and talk to people. Some of them are very famous: Socrates, Aristotle and Plato, just to name a few. They talked because that was their mission; they enlightened the listeners with their philosophies about life.

Nowadays we do not have lighthouses anymore; modern technology offers help to sailors. Nowadays we do not have plazas where philosophers can congregate and talk.

The new lighthouse and plaza is the public library.

In the public library, people congregate to find out about Socrates and Aristotle.

The public library offers so many services to improve the lives of the community, and the kind staff is always ready to help.

One of the services at the public library is the Internet. In these hard times, when paying the Internet bill is so hard, we can go to the nearest public library and get this service.

Another service that the public library offers is borrowing movies. One can take one's movies home for a week or renew them for another week if you please.

Music is also available at the public library. Patrons can borrow CDs for three weeks at a time.

Books for children, books for teenagers and books for grown-ups are also waiting for patrons at the public library.

The library also brings public speakers to educate and enlighten the patrons with their knowledge.

Yes, lighthouses and plazas are part of the past, but the public library is part of our present and our future. Let us keep the library alive with our presence.

Let us keep the beautiful tradition of going to the library alive. Visiting the public library is like visiting a friend, and when I leave, I hardly can wait to go back.
