The College of the Canyons Foundation received a two-year $50,000 grant from the James Irvine Foundation to support an expansion in multicultural programming and outreach efforts to attract Latinos and Spanish-speaking populations in Santa Clarita by offering relevant, multicultural programming at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center.

The activities covered by the grant will include a community workshop on bolero music and opera, and a workshop reading of "Rappaccini's Daughter," a Spanish chamber opera composed by COC faculty member Daniel Catán.

"We are very grateful and excited about this grant from the James Irvine Foundation," said Adam Philipson, Performing Arts Center managing director.

"The projects this grant will fund will allow us to build upon the fine work that has begun in partnership with the Newhall Community Center."
