The five members of the citizen panel formed to oversee the Open Space Preservation District will be sworn in Wednesday at the panel's first meeting.

The Financial Accountability and Audit Panel will meet annually to review the city's management of funds collected for the open space district voters approved in 2007. The district will collect annual assessment fees from property owners to buy vacant land in and around the city to develop a greenbelt of open space. The city expects to collect $30 million in fees over the next 30 years.

The panel will not have the authority to select the land, but will work to ensure the city adheres to the land acquisition priorities that were outlined when the district was formed.

In February, the City Council appointed the five members that include Wendy Langhans, Calvin Hedman, Henry Schultz, and Alan Ferdman and Spencer Leafdale.

Panel members will receive an introduction on the panel's bylaws, the Brown Act, financial disclosure forms and will discuss the district's Annual Work Program that lists guidelines for land acquisition.

The meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. in the Century Conference Room on the first floor of City Hall, located at 23920 Valencia Blvd.
