While responding to a separate call shortly before 10 p.m., deputies reportedly saw Ben Popken, 34, coming out of a shed adjacent to Granada Villa Mobile Home Park, on Soledad Canyon Road near Sierra Highway.
After questioning Popken, the deputies found the bomb inside the shed, and more than 80 residents of the mobile home park were evacuated, sheriff's Sgt. Deborah Miller said.
The Sheriff's Department's Arson and Explosives Detail was called out and safely detonated the bomb around 12:35 a.m. Monday, Miller said. There were no injuries.
Popken was arrested and booked on Monday morning, though the specific charge and bail amount were not made available by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station. The investigation is being conducted by the Arson and Explosives Detail.
Miller said residents were allowed to return to their homes after deputies inspected the area for any injuries or property damage.
