It will take about two years for Advanced Bionics to completely move into a five-story building on Westinghouse Place, a company official said Wednesday.

By this fall, about 130 employees will move from offices at nearby Mann Biomedical Park, said the official, who spoke with The Signal on condition of anonymity.

By 2012, the company expects to have relocated all of its manufacturing from the San Fernando Valley, with a total estimated staff in the Valencia building of about 500 people.

"Moving manufacturing (offices) is a lengthy and involved process," the official said.

The official said about 30 percent of Advanced Bionics' workforce lives in the Santa Clarita region.

The Summit Oaks building, completed last fall, includes 144,000 square feet of space and is located near the junction of Interstate 5 and Highway 126.

Founded by billionaire Alfred E. Mann, Advanced Bionics produces cochlear ear implants for the hearing impaired.

Cochlear implants are devices containing electrodes that are positioned in the inner ear to activate auditory nerve fibers, allowing for transmission of sound signals to the brain.

The official said the company will still maintain offices in France and Hong Kong.

When considering a move, Advanced Bionics was committed to remaining in the Santa Clarita Valley, the official said.

"The Santa Clarita Valley is a wonderful place to live and work," President and Chief Executive Jeffrey H. Greiner said in a statement. "We're excited about consolidating our talented and specialized staff."

Several tax and fee incentives in Santa Clarita's $5 million, 21-point economic plan also helped keep the company local, Jason Crawford, the city's economic development director, told The Signal last week.
