The talent in Valencia’s athletic program is widespread.

The Vikings win in the fall. They win in the winter. They win in the spring.

The boys volleyball team seems like it would win in any season. Valencia ran its Foothill League winning streak to 82 matches while winning its ninth straight league title.

Aly Drake had quite a senior year, winning the CIF state title in the 800-meter run and leading the girls soccer team to a Foothill League title as co-captain.

The softball team, baseball team, girls volleyball team, boys tennis team, and girls tennis team all added to their lengthy lists of league championships.

And while the football team finished second in 2008, there is no reason to think the Vikings won’t challenge for the league crown in 2009 with a slew of returnees.

If they come up short, chances are other teams will pick up the slack.
Sept. 12
The football team loses to Thousand Oaks 23-14 in the season opener. Quarterback Dominick Solley suffers an ankle injury in the first quarter, and Zach Tartabull is sidelined with a concussion. Nick Moss is 14-of-30 for 150 yards in replacement of Solley.
