The Betty Ferguson Foundation has selected Dianne Van Hook, chancellor of College of the Canyons, as the foundation’s Woman of Honor for 2009. The event, to be held Sept. 19 at the Tournament Players’ Club in Valencia, will celebrate its 10th year honoring influential women in and outside the Santa Clarita Valley.

Previous Women of Honor awardees include Marlee Lauffer, Cheri Fleming, Liz Seipel, Elizabeth Hopp, Dianne White Crawford, Linda Hafizi, Roberta Veloz and Debbie Reynolds and Ruta Lee.

The evening event will feature recognition of Van Hook by community leaders, friends and family and will be preceded by dinner and dancing.

“Dianne Van Hook’s leadership, vision and commitment to providing educational opportunities to girls and young women of the Santa Clarita Valley is unparalleled,” said Bruce Fortine, a member of the Board of Directors of the Betty Ferguson Foundation and a College of the Canyons trustee. “She has served College of the Canyons as Superintendent/President for 20 years and will complete her first year as Chancellor on July 1.”

The Betty Ferguson Foundation was co-founded by Judy Cox and Marjanne Priest. The nonprofit has been in service to girls and women of the SCV for more than 10 years.

“This event is fun and it offers all of us involved an opportunity to publicly recognize and thank someone who has done so much for the people here in the Santa Clarita Valley. I expect us to have a record turnout.” said Cox.

Proceeds from the event will fund various projects and initiatives of the foundation to benefit women and girls in the SCV.

“For us, this event is the high point of every year.” said Priest. “We have honored several amazing women over the past nine years, and we are looking forward to seeing many of them at this year’s event.”

TPC will provide a plated dinner, and local Journey Tribute Band: “Don’t Stop Believin’” will offer live music before and after dinner.
Tickets may be purchased at the Foundation Office, 25510 West Avenue Stanford, Suite 104, Valencia, or at (661) 702–8712. For more information on the Betty Ferguson Foundation visit
