Hart High School has a rich tradition in athletics, and that tradition has set the bar high for its teams year in and year out.

The football and baseball teams made their annual trips to the playoffs this year, although reaching the postseason proved to be more difficult than in the past.

The football team didn’t reach the CIF-Southern Section quarterfinals for the first time under head coach Mike Herrington, and the baseball team had its share of struggles a year after winning the league.

It was easier for the Indians’ swimming programs, as both the boys and girls teams claimed Foothill League titles.

The girls even finished second at the CIF-Southern Section Division I finals, with an individual title by Jordan Danny in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The softball team experienced similar success thanks to a core of nine seniors, a group highlighted by Jessica Shults, who was named Foothill League co-Player of the Year and All-Santa Clarita Valley Player of the Year, catching for pitching phenom Destiny Rodino.

The team won a co-league championship and advanced to the CIF-SS Div. I semifinals.

The boys basketball team shined in the winter, taking second place in the Foothill League and advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS Div. IIIAA playoffs.

Not to be outdone, the girls tennis team also had a strong season led by All-Santa Clarita Valley Player of the Year Anne Susdorf, who did not lose a set in Foothill League play.

The girls golf team also went undefeated in Foothill League matches and won the Newhall Cup.

All things considered, what may have been a down year by Hart’s standards would be looked on by many other schools as a resounding success.
