The Repertory East Playhouse will continue its highly anticipated "81 Series" on Friday, July 10, at 8 p.m. with the critically acclaimed comedy "Fat Pig" by Neil LaBute.

Sponsored by Ed and Dana Hill of Geotechnologies Inc., the "Be a Part of The 81" Opening Night Wine Reception starts at 7 p.m. with curtain at 8 p.m.

Fat Pig is Neil LaBute's award-winning and bitingly funny romance about love in the modern age of body image and peer pressure and will be directed by Ovington Michael Owston and with Shane Stevens, Joy Nash, Tyler Brooks, and Leslie Connelly starring.

Tom is a young career guy who hits it off with Helen, a bright, sexy woman who happens to be plus-sized - and then some. As he reluctantly finds himself falling in love with Helen, Tom's colleagues are brutally cruel in their assessment of his new mate.

LaBute probes our carb-counting, extreme makeover nation by asking tough questions. How much has our relentless pursuit of beauty turned us into an uglier species?

Says REP Artistic Director Ovington Michael Owston, about Fat Pig. "This is an amazing and poignant piece of theatre. We are very proud to have it on our stage."

"The most emotional engaging and unsettling of Mr LaBute's plays since BASH," said Ben Brantley of The New York Times

"One of Neil LaBute's subtler effort... Demonstrates a warmth and compassion for its characters missing in many of LaBute's previous works [and] balances black humor and social commentary in...Beautifully written, hilarious...dissection of how societal pressures affect relationships... Astute and up-to-the-minute relevant," said Frank Scheck of the New York Post

Fat Pig opens Friday July 10 and will run through July 25. Show times are Friday and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

This is a limited engagement performance. This show contains adult language and adult situations and is intended for mature audiences only.

The REP will host post show discussions immediately following each Sunday performance. Join the cast and crew for an intimate discussion about the process of creating live theatre.

The REP is located at 24266 Main Street Newhall, CA 91321.
