Candy is a six-year-old pit bull, one of 75 dogs residing at the Brittany Foundation in Agua Dulce. Through Project Dogway, the facility is raising funds to build a run for large dogs.

Like many California girls, Candy is blonde, buff and beautiful. All she needs now is a place to strut her stuff.

Candy, a six-year-old pit bull, is one of 75 dogs residing at Agua Dulce's the Brittany Foundation, a non-profit humane organization dedicated to the rescue, care and placement of homeless dogs.

While Candy and many of the Brittany Foundation dogs reside in a spacious 12 foot by 12 foot kennel, what the organization hopes for next is a 130 foot by 75 foot, fenced run area to allow the pooches a place to play and stretch out in the sun.

"We pride ourselves on taking excellent care of our dogs. They're given food, love and medical attention, but unfortunately, we don't have enough volunteers to walk the dogs every day," said Brittany Foundation founder Nancy Anderson. "Having a large, fenced run for our dogs would give them a place to roam and romp, as well as allow a play area for prospective owners to visit with an adoptive dog."

The Brittany Foundation is launching Project Dogway, a fundraising campaign to get the run built by the beginning of summer. Cash, as well as Home Depot or Lowes gift cards, construction materials and professional time donations are being sought to fund the project's estimated $10,000 cost.

"It would really make such a huge difference in the lives of our animals to have a play space to call their own," Anderson said. "These are animals who were abused, neglected or left for dead in shelters.
We think it's time they get to have a little fun."
