What do you call a year like Canyon had in 2008-09?

Up and down?

A struggle?

A growth year?

It would definitely be a growth year if some of the youth grows up in a big way in 2009-10.

There are candidates.

In basketball, Brooke Lemar and Brandon Perry could lead their teams to brighter days.

In track and field, a pair of sophomores-to-be in Tiffini Stone and Taylor Thomas, as well as some more returning talent, will keep the Cowboys among the Foothill League’s elite.

Canyon softball opened eyes in 2009, and with its top two players expected to return in 2010, the Cowboys could surprise even more teams.

Topping that, Canyon boys soccer has a lot of talent coming back, which could make the Cowboys a repeat league champ.

Canyon girls soccer also has a lot to build on after a title season.

Time will tell if Canyon will be mighty again.

Sept. 5
