The Chivas USA soccer team showed its winning talents when 10 players from the team joined the Michael Hoefflin Foundation for Children's Cancer's ninth annual Benefit Dinner in late March. The dinner, held at the Valencia Hyatt, raised more than $44,000 to support the foundation's work with children and families touched by pediatric cancer in the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding valleys.

"Access Hollywood" weekend co-anchor and correspondent Tony Potts hosted the event. Potts is also the Michael Hoefflin Foundation spokesperson and opened by sharing a story of his parent's upcoming 50th wedding anniversary celebration and how their commitment in all facets of their lives has always inspired him. His own involvement with the Michael Hoefflin Foundation is so important because it represents to him a vital commitment to community.

More than 200 guests enjoyed dinner with the soccer players and a rousing auction, purchasing sports memorabilia donated by Planet Soccer and The Friends of the Michael Hoefflin Foundation; as well as a road trip to a Chivas game and tickets to a Chivas game in the Presidential Suite at the Home Depot Center, donated by Chivas USA.

Even though this is the Chivas soccer team's first year as a foundation sponsor, the organization is no stranger to helping out.

Chivas recently lived up to its motto of helping the community and keeping children and their families smiling by visiting Children's Hospital to spread cheer to patients in the Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases, and together with the Columbus Crew brought major league soccer to the Santa Clarita Valley at a benefit game, bringing the total raised for the Michael Hoefflin Foundation to more than $80,000 in just two months.

The Michael Hoefflin Foundation for children's cancer is a public non-profit 501(c) (3) foundation serving children and families touched by cancer in the Santa Clarita, Antelope, San Fernando, Simi and Conejo Valleys.
