The Hart boys track and field team is now in position.

With an 82-54 win over Canyon Thursday, the Indians will finish off the Foothill League season April 24 with a match against fellow league undefeated Saugus.

However, Canyon did win the girls varsity side, defeating Hart 97-39.

The Indians boys team won every event over the Cowboys with the exception of the hurdles.

Canyon's Casey Adams placed first in the 110-yard hurdles coming in at 15.6, and also won the 300-yard hurdles, setting a personal record of 40.4.

A few of the Indians boys were winners in multiple events.

Stanford-bound senior Delano Howell won four events for the Hart team.

Howell, who was the Indians' dominant running back during the football season, has been one of the team's biggest successes this season.

Howell placed first in the 200-yard event (21.8), the 400-yard (49.2), the long jump (23.1) and the triple jump (44.3).

Spencer Lloyd was a double winner for the Indians taking the shot put (49-5 1/2) and the discus throw (160-10)
Jimmy Kelley was also a double winner for the Hart team, placing first in the 1,600-yard event (4:34) and the 3,200-yard event (10:02).

Hart head coach Steve Hubbell was very satisfied with his team's performance and hopes to bring some of its success to the postseason.

"Our (boys) team isn't that deep," he said. "But we have a lot of athletes that do exceptionally well in the Foothill League, and I can only hope they are dominant at the CIF prelims."

The Cowboys answered the Indians dominance on the boys side by receiving equally dominant performances on the girls side.

"I am proud of the girls team," said Canyon head coach Paul Broneer. "They did everything they were supposed to do."
Canyon had a few double winners in their events.

Hillary Phillips was a double winner for the Canyon team placing first in the 400-yard event (62.6) and the 300-yard hurdles (47.7).

Layana White won the 100-yard dash (12.8) and the high jump (4-4), while Courtney Saunders won the shot put (36-7) and the discus throw (109-10)

The girls team also won two relay events.

They placed first in the 4x400-yard event (4:56.7) and the 4x100-yard coming in at 50.3.
