Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Canyon Country couple Monday on suspicion of shoplifting from the Santa Clarita Valley’s Target stores.
Richard Hetherington, 41, and Pamela Schaffer, 39, also had methamphetamine and counterfeit U.S. currency, according to a statement released by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Deputies arrested the two at about 2:30 p.m. on Monday as they were leaving the Canyon Country Target store in the 19000 block of Golden Valley Road. The couple was staying at a hotel near Stevenson Ranch, where they had stashed 40 other stolen items, including iPods, computers, video games and cameras, the statement said.

Deputies also found credit and ID cards belonging to other people.

They were booked on suspicion of burglary, identity theft, possession of counterfeit U.S. currency and possession of a controlled substance.

The couple’s 11-month-old child was taken into protective custody, the statement said.
