Obama’s reverse Midas effect

"Obama knows best" is the line we're getting from Washington for everything from the economy to foreign policy.

However, if you're a Jew, if you love Israel and recognize its historical importance, and if you understand Israel's pivotal role in Mideast stability, then you have a problem: the President.

Barack Obama is no friend of Israel.

Whether it is his spiritual mentor, Jeremiah Wright's railing against "them Jews," or his Cairo speech where he equates the Palestinians' lack of a homeland with the Holocaust, or his bowing to Saudi King Abdullah-the sworn enemy of Israel, or his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu where he pressed for a two-state solution to the Palestinian problem and a halt to Jewish settlements in captured land - all contrary to the Prime Minister's position - the president is a goldmine of foreign policy missteps.

The president is single-handedly altering the fruitful relationship between America and one of our staunchest allies in a time of heightened tensions in the world and, in so doing, sending the wrong signals to Israel's enemies.

Weakness, naïveté and double-dealing are the watch words of this administration with respect to its foreign policy and our relationship with Israel.

Ignoring the fact that Israelis are surrounded by enemies that hate them and proudly proclaim "Peace for us means the destruction of Israel" (Yasser Arafat), that Israel is the only successful democracy in a land with an aversion to individual freedoms, and the fact that Israel is our only dependable ally in the region, Mr. Obama revels in his perceived role as peacemaker, little knowing that his policies and fawning praise of Islam's "religious tolerance" exacerbate the very problems he thinks he's solving.

Rather than the Oracle from Illinois that he is lauded for being by the media, Mr. Obama is the modern day equivalent of the "reverse Midas effect"; everything he touches turns to rust.
