West Ranch sophomore golfer J.J. Holen’s season ended Thursday at the CIF/SCGA Tournament at Temecula’s SCGA Members Club.
Holen shot a 7-over 79 over two days.

“I was pleased with how I played this year,” Holen said. “I improved my league scoring but I’m not fully satisfied with how I finished in the postseason. But I still have two years left.”

Hail interrupted the what was to be a one-day tournament Wednesday.

The sophomore was five holes in.

He completed the other 13 holes Thursday, going par-birdie to open up the day.

Holen made one more birdie on the day, but three bogeys and two double-bogeys did him in.

The sophomore said it was difficult to golf a course that played differently three days in a row.

He played a practice round Tuesday when it was damp. There was more precipitation Wednesday. Thursday was dry.

Holen finished second individually in the Foothill League and made it to the doorstep of the CIF State Final.

Kevin Dougherty of Vista Murrieta finished first Thursday with a 6-under 66.

The cut was 68.

Holen finished tied for 86th overall.
