There will be something for everyone June 20 at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons when the Santa Clarita Ballet  Company presents a two-act ballet program.

In act one, the beloved Royal Ballet version of “The Tales of Beatrix Potter” will be performed by Santa Clarita Ballet Academy students, including those as young as 5, and will be accompanied by company dancers.

Audiences will find the familiar tales of Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle Duck, Tom Kitten, Jeremy Fisher, to name a few. Staged as an introduction to classic ballet, the costumes and choreography are designed to entertain the youngest audience members.

In act two, the Santa Clarita Ballet Company will present “Dvorak’s Serenade” and “G-Song.” Dvorak’s Serenade is from a mid-19th century romantic ballet. Act two also includes an encore presentation of G-Song, a more contemporary work originally performed in June 2008.

The Santa Clarita Ballet Company is a nonprofit organization founded in 1995 by Corinne Glover who serves as the company’s executive director and Carol Guidry, artistic director.

Glover’s aunt was a founding member of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), London in the 1920s. Her mother was the original RAD organizer in the San Francisco area in the mid 1950’s.

Guidry was a soloist with the Minnesota Dance Theatre. She danced, taught and choreographed in Germany for eight years with the Heidelberg City Ballet and the Gelsenkirchner Musiktheater im Revier. After returning to Los Angeles, Guidry choreographed three productions for the Mark Taper Forum and performed regularly with the Los Angeles Chamber Ballet. She joined the teaching staff of the Santa Clarita Ballet Academy in 1994.

The company was founded as a performing outlet for the advanced ballet students of the Santa Clarita Ballet Academy. The company has grown to include company dancers, apprentices and junior apprentices.

In 2004, the company began presenting “The Nutcracker Ballet,” which has become a local holiday tradition, at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center on the College of the Canyons campus. The company has presented “The Nutcracker” annually at various venues since 1995.

In addition to “The Nutcracker,” the company’s repertory includes seven works — among the works are four full-length ballets. Other works performed by the company include “Coppelia,” “Cinderella,” “As the Piano Rolls,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Kingdom of the Shades” and “B Side.”

The Santa Clarita Ballet Company will stage two shows, Saturday, June 20, at 1 p.m. and at 7 p.m. For tickets, call the Santa Clarita Ballet Company at (661) 251-0366.
