The swimming pool of Dennis Ferrigno, of Newhall, proved an enticing but dangerous lure Wednesday when a mother duck and her ducklings decided to take a dip there. After leading her babies into the water, the mother discovered they couldn’t get out of the pool.

Her distress prompted Ferrigno to contact Citizens for Sheltered Animals, which sent Rick Kerr to the rescue.

It took Kerr more than two hours to scoop the babies out of the pool and into a net. He transported mother and babies to Lake Elizabeth for release.Ferrigno’s pool in the Circle J Ranch area of Santa Clarita seemed perfect — at first.
