A 60-year-old woman hanged herself in a holding cell in the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station over the weekend, Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said.

Deputies arrested Sharon Lee Prichard of Canyon Country on suspicion of a misdemeanor Friday night. About 5 p.m. Sunday, she hanged herself using bedding and a vent in the cell, said sheriff's homicide Det. Jonas Shipe.

She would have appeared in court on Monday. Homicide detectives and coroner's officials were still investigating the rare jailhouse suicide.

Coroner's investigators were testing Prichard's body to determine whether she could have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

Prichard's death marked the second suicide this year in Los Angeles County holding facilities. In March, a 22-year-old man arrested on drug charges hanged himself in Men's Central Jail in Los Angeles.
