The board of directors of the Santa Clarita Valley Youth Project has elected new members for the local nonprofit group's executive committee.

The following officers were elected: John Musella of the Newhall Land and Farming Co., president; Kelly Bruno of the National Health Foundation, vice president; Brian Koegle of Poole and Shaffery, secretary; and Tom Hough, CPA, treasurer.

"This is truly an exciting time for the Santa Clarita Valley Youth Project," said Musella. "We are a strong, growing organization that has such a positive impact on youth across the Santa Clarita Valley, especially our high school students."

The SCV Youth Project has been providing services to teens on six local high schools for seven years and has recently expanded onto four junior high campuses.

"In 2007, through direct services and outreach, the Youth Project assisted more than 2,000 youth in the Santa Clarita Valley with serious life challenges, including depression, suicide, grief/loss, peer pressure and drug/alcohol abuse", said Kim Goldman, executive director.

The world today is different then the one most parents grew up in and today's youth have more serious challenges and issues to deal with, Goldman said.

"We are the only nonprofit in the Santa Clarita Valley that works with youth in a one-on-one situation, on school campuses, to help them through their difficult times," Goldman said. "Helping our youth is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life."

The outgoing executive committee includes Stacy Miller, Maggi Havas, Nancy Starcyzk and Jeff Lambert. All will remain actively involved as members of the board of directors.

"We are truly indebted to the outgoing executive committee for their years of service to the Youth Project, and for creating the strong foundation on which we stand today," Musella said.
