Association ignores us

I have just learned that the recreation board of the Friendly Valley Homeowners' Association has opted to remove the steps that I personally have always used to walk down to our lawn bowling area. I have heard the rumor that these steps have been "deemed unsafe" and that the recreation Board of Directors is looking for bids to remove the steps with no plans to replace them.

This unkindly act will leave residents two ways to walk the steep decline - a cement slope with a railing or the slippery grass to navigate.

Not only have we homeowners not been consulted, but only some of us have learned of this through a privately funded newsletter from the Association No. 5.

We seem to be invisible to our current recreation board members.

I am amazed at their power and their lack of concern as to how the homeowners of this senior community feel regarding the removal of these steps, rather than the repair of same.

They seem to regard us residents as invisible. We are not informed or consulted. Decisions are made for us. One would think that filling out a Friendly Valley request form would do the trick, but this current board does not respond, as I and others have together acknowledged.

I am familiar with this so called Friendly Valley Country Club, as my mother first purchased her condo in 1973. Things were different then!

I have lived in this same condo since 1998. This was at one time a wonderful community. The recreation board should wake up to the fact that our U.S. President Obama has made transparency a major issue in this country and that we residents in this Friendly Valley community expect no less from this board.

It is our money they are spending and we don't want to be ignored or shortchanged. Our opinions should be sought as to what is beneficial to us.

For a volunteer board, they are overstepping their bounds. If they want us to respect their efforts, than they should consult us before making decisions that effect us.

We are first and foremost a senior community of residents 55 and older. Give us credit for also being quite knowledgeable.
