Hart High graduate Trevor Bauer had a big week for the UCLA Bruins without even stepping on the mound.

On Tuesday, he was named the school’s athlete of the week after pitching a complete game and leading the Bruins to a 10-4 victory over No. 3 Arizona State May 23.

The bigger honor came Wednesday when he was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year.

Bauer was stellar all season, but especially in Pac-10 play.

He was 7-0 with a 2.98 ERA.

Overall, Bauer was 9-3 with a 2.99 ERA in 20 games, 10 started.

He tossed four complete games and struck out 92 batters in 105 1/3 innings.

The 2008 Hart grad also picked up four saves.

Arrington released by Broncos

As reported by the Associated press, former College of the Canyons running back J.J. Arrington was cut by the Denver Broncos before even playing a game for the team.

Arrington, who spent his first four NFL seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, signed a four-year $10 million deal with the Broncos in March.

But the running back failed a physical and was released by Denver on Thursday.

Arrington has been battling a right knee injury.

Frome back in gold

Hart High graduate Chris Frome will be playing for Notre Dame football again.

Frome, whose last season with the Fighting Irish was 2006, was selected to play in the 2009 Notre Dame Japan Bowl, a game that features Notre Dame alumni playing against the Japanese Senior National Team.

The game will be played July 25 at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo.

Notre Dame will be coached by Lou Holtz.

Frome, a defensive lineman, signed a free agent deal with the Chicago Bears in 2006 but did not make the team’s final roster.
