Volleyball Poker Tournament
The Valencia girls volleyball team will host a Texas hold 'em poker tournament on Saturday, April 26 at the Tesoro del Valle clubhouse, 2371 Stoney Creek Rd., Valencia. Registration and dinner begins at 5 p.m. and the tournament starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $100 each, which includes dinner and two drink tickets. Spectators are $25, which includes dinner and one drink ticket. Rebuys are at $50 - cash only. A boutique of assorted vendors will be set up for shoppers. You must be 21 to play. Summer Theater Internship
One lucky college student will receive a paid internship this summer to plunge into world of live theater. This month, the Repertory East Playhouse received a grant from the Los Angeles Country Arts Commission to underwrite a 10-week paid summer internship for a full-time undergraduate. To apply, interested candidates should e-mail their resume, two to three photos of any technical or artistic work, and either a letter of recommendation or a page describing how they meet the requirements for the position. Tom Bolewski Fundraiser
Tom Bolewski has been a Santa Clarita resident for more than 20 years. He recently was injured and is now classified as a quadriplegic. He is in Rehab. Fundraisers: a huge garage sale is on April 19, 5:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. At the corner of Buckeye Court and Red Cedar in Saugus; Texas Hold'em Tournament is on April 26 - prizes, food and live music featuring the band "Frequency." All proceeds go to Tom Bolewski Special Needs Trust.

Erwin Torres Fundraisers
Erwin Torres, 23, of Saugus died in an auto collision in the city of Downey on Tuesday March 4. He was born on March 26, 1984 in Guatemala, and was a graduate of Saugus High School in 2003. Most recently he was a student and an apprentice electrician. The family has been able to raise some money for the extensive burial costs, but they are still quite a way from meeting the expenses. Torres friends have set up a fundraiser buffet dinner at Egg Plantation on Saturday April 19 at 6 p.m. The tickets are $30. To purchase tickets call (661) 904-2895. Appreciation Days 2008
Santa Clarita Valley Appreciation Days 2008 will be held at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor on May 3 and 4. The Valencia theme park makes 4,000 tickets to Hurricane Harbor available to schools and non-profit organizations at $3 each, which the organizations sell to the public at $10 each. This is still a significant savings over the regular admission price (up to $19.99 per person) - and serves as a fundraiser for these organizations. Events at Valencia Library
The READ to a Dog program will be held for children every second Saturday of the month and the Kid's Book Club for 4th and 5th graders will meet on the third Wednesday of every month at 3:30 p.m. The Valencia Library will host several performances relating to women in history and literature. Women in Business Scholarship
April 14 is the deadline for college students to submit applications for the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship offered by the Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley Foundation. The $1,000 local scholarship is offered to young women who are interested in pursuing a career in business and are eligible to enter the third or fourth year of an undergraduate degree program at an accredited university/ college/institute. Fashion Show and Luncheon
Take a trip down memory lane during Henry Mayo Holiday Home Tour League's annual membership fashion show and luncheon at Newhall's Hart Park on April 15. Sponsored by Bank of Santa Clarita and L.A. Relay For Life Wine Tasting

The Questers Charity Estate Sale

Walk for Hope
Circle of Hope's fourth annual 5K Walk for Hope will be held on Saturday April 19 at 8 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at Castaic Lake. Celebrated as a Day at the Lake, this event raises funds to assist uninsured or underinsured individuals undergoing breast cancer treatment in the SCV. Walk for yourself, walk for a friend, walk in memory of a loved one, or just walk for the joy of life. Put together a team of friends and family and make a day of it. After the walk, browse the classic car exhibit and vote for your favorite car in the People's Choice car show. Stay for lunch and enjoy great barbecue cooked up by The Friends of Castaic Lake. Listen to top 40 hits and rhythm and blues tunes performed by "The Company Band." Assistance League's 18th annual run/walk takes place on Sunday, April 20 at Newhall Park. This event benefits Operation School Bell, which provides new shoes, clothes, backpacks and school supplies to elementary school children in need in the Santa Clarita Valley. Chuckwagon Dinner Show
This year's Cowboy Poetry Festival kicks off with a trip back in time at the third annual Chuckwagon Dinner Show, a fundraiser for the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society at Heritage Junction on Thursday, April 24. Tickets are going fast. Songstress Juni Fisher, storyteller Joe Herrington and the cooks from Manflo Ranch and 2R Ranch will share the spotlight. Lauren Blaire Memorial Softball
On Thursday April 24, the Saugus Varsity Softball team will play a league game against West Ranch High School at the Hart Pony Complex at 7 p.m. The Saugus team will play in memory of Lauren Blare. Kids Swmming for Kids
On Saturday April 26 thousands of children and volunteers will participate in the U.S. Swim School Association's annual Kids Swimming for Kids swim-a-thon. The local event will be from 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
at Academy Swim Club, 28079 Smyth Dr., Valencia. The event will benefit the Swim For Life Foundation for prevention of drowning incidents in our communities. This year the volunteers and their little swimmers in Santa Clarita have the opportunity to raise over $2,000 to help wipe out child drownings in our neighborhoods. Discovering Careers
The Santa Clarita Valley's first hands-on career exploration program is planed for 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday April 26 at College of the Canyons. Sponsored by the SCV School and Business Alliance, the Hart School District, local elementary school district and College of the Canyons, the expo will feature interactive presentations and demonstration by local business and service organizations. Students from 5 to 20 years old will be encouraged to participate in hands-on activities that interest them, and explore the career fields that relate to those interests.
