Happy graduation! It’s that time of the year when graduation ceremonies are the order of the day. Kudos to the class of 2009 graduates Rachel Todd of Valencia High, James Kozeluh of Canyon High and Michelle Muldoon of Hart High. May all graduates of the class of 2009 achieve his or her dreams.

Lighting Our Future
The 38th annual SCV Boys and Girls Club Auction will be held June 13 at Mann BioMedical Park in Valencia. Prices have been reduced for sponsor tables which are now available at $5,000, $2,500, $1,500, $575 levels. Tickets are $75 for individual reserved seats.

For those who want to forgo dinner, you can purchase a pair of general admission tickets for $25. Make your reservations at (661) 254-3063. Greg and Chell Amsler return as auction co-chairs. For those who’ve never attended a Boys and Girls Club auction, know that it is fun evening of entertainment and wonderful auction items that benefits the SCV Boys and Girls Club that serves more than 3,000 children in the SCV.

It is time to forgot about this recession funk and do something important for your friends and neighbors.

Seen at Boys and Girls Club Auction preview
Among those spotted at the SCV Boys and Girls Club Auction preview: Harold and Jacquie Peterson, Dianne and Wayne Crawford, Frank and Charlotte Kleeman, Bob and Margo Hudson, Bill and Cathy Kennedy, Anna Ott, John and Karen Mahaffey, Jim Ventress, Bryan Lake, Jeff Hacker, Greg Amsler, Richard and Marian Sandnes, Carl Goldman, John and Janice Hoskinson, Marlee Lauffer, Rose and Steve Chegwin, Michael Niles, Andy and Laura Gallardo, Connie Worden Roberts, Geri Jacobs, Tom and Dody Rogers, Alan Barbakow, Cindy Kittle, Judy Penman, Dorothy Tucker, Cheryl Grey, Barbara Sterns Cochran, Barbara Morris, Tony and Reena Newhall and Jeff Solomon.

The event, held at the Sand Canyon estate home of Richard and Marian Sandnes was a delightfully casual event that featured wonderful food from LA Trends Catering and friendly socializing.

Items you’ll want to buy
The SCV Boys and Girls Club Auction is offering up some very attractive auction items. My favorite items include the one-week stay on Maui in a luxurious one-bedroom condo on the ocean at Kihei, near Wailea or the Maui view home located between Kaanapali and Kapalua (my favorite part of Maui). Sigh... I could really use Maui right about ... now!

Of course, I wouldn’t turn down the use of a luxurious Kona home, either, the condo on the Big Island of Hawaii or the Mexico or Caribbean cruise from Princess Cruises. There’s also the Ocean Club Paradise Island in the Bahamas and first class airfare on American Airlines to consider. Hmmm, choices, choices! However, in the end, I think the most fun would be Bob Kellar’s Country Hoedown for 16 at his Sand Canyon ranch home.

For something really wild I’d bid on the “evening of enchantment” for 50 atop the Sky Tower at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Now that’s a way to impress your friends.

Meet you at the finish line
Grab your high heels (oh, heck! Just grab any kind of shoes) and hustle on down to Hart Park this morning for the inaugural Soroptimist International of Greater Santa Clarita Valley’s High Heel-a-thon. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the 150-yard walk to “stomp out domestic violence” to begin at 10 a.m. The event benefits the Domestic Violence Center of the SCV.
