At around 7:05 a.m., Derek Eugene Shea was driving southbound on Sierra Highway, just north of Vasquez Canyon Road, when he apparently lost control of his motorcycle, according to Sgt. Kevin Pack of the California Highway Patrol's Newhall area office.
Shea was pronounced dead at the scene.
There were no other vehicles involved.
Pack said after losing control, Shea went off the western edge of the roadway.
Although the report did not detail if the motorcycle flipped or spun around, CHP Sgt. John Williams said that at some point, the motorcycle had to have laid down on its side, so it was safe to assume that the motorcycle and Shea had flipped over during the collision.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Pack.
