A crashed big rig dangling over the edge of the southbound side of Interstate 5 jammed traffic early Thursday afternoon.

The truck's injured driver was sent to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

Los Angles County Fire received the call reporting the big rig hanging over the far right edge of the southbound side of Interstate 5 south of Gorman Road at 12:16 p.m. today, said County Fire Inspector Steve Zermeno.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, he added.

Injuries sustained in the wreck sent the driver of the truck to the hospital, Zermeno said.

County fire officials originally called for a helicopter to airlift the victim from the scene, but the air transport was cancelled and the victim was taken by ambulance, he said.

The extent of the driver's injuries are undetermined, Zermeno added.
