Southbound I-5 closure planned for roadwork
The southbound Interstate 5 truck route lanes will be closed during the day from Monday through Friday this week while the California Department of Transportation replaces slabs damaged in the truck tunnel fire in October. The southbound Highway 14 truck route to the southbound I-5 will also be closed during the same time period from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Small plane crashes near Compton airport
COMPTON - Authorities say at least four people have been badly injured after a twin engine plane crashed in a Compton neighborhood. Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the Cessna 310 went down Saturday afternoon, about a block from the Compton Airport. It's unclear whether the injured people were on the ground or in the plane.

According to Gregor, the Cessna is owned by Eureka International of Carson City, Nev.

Funeral held for Charlton Heston
LOS ANGELES - Charlton Heston, one of the last lions of Old Hollywood, was remembered at a funeral service Saturday as devoutly religious and patriotic, and a man who was an imposing figure both in his politics and on the big screen. Heston died April 5 at age 84 in his Beverly Hills home with his wife, Lydia, at his side following a battle with Alzheimer's disease. The service was held at the Episcopal Parish of St. Matthews, a church in a wooded canyon above Pacific Palisades.

Two deputies hit in theater shootout
EL SEGUNDO - A movie theater shootout wounded two officers and left the gunman dead, authorities said Saturday. The shooting broke out about 10:15 p.m. Friday at the Pacific Beach Cities Stadium 16 on Nash Street. A man got into a "business dispute" with theater employees and police at the theater were called, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. A man identified by the coroner's office as Jonathan Taylor, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene.
