Hoffman, whose mother is a client of Tranquility Salon on Cinema Drive, recently learned that one of the salon's former stylists was pregnant with a baby named Harlow, who has a heart defect.
After hearing that the baby's mother, Harmony Nixon, was trying to raise $3,000 to bank the umbilical cord blood, Hoffman sprang into action and offered to lend her celebrity to the cause.
Salon owner Lahoma Cronk said that the cord blood offers the promise of a future cure for the baby's hypoplastic left heart syndrome, but insurance will not cover the cost of banking the blood.
Donations can be sent to Harmony Nixon, care of Tranquility Salon, 23300 Cinema Drive #250, Valencia, CA 91355.
