Two separate water-related hearings are scheduled for today at Santa Clarita City Hall.

The Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District meets at 3:30 p.m. to vote on a proposed sewer rate increase.

If approved, the sewer rate will jump from $14.92 per month, for the average homeowner, to $47 per month by 2015.

The proposed rate hike will pay to upgrade two Santa Clarita sewer treatment plants.

A simple majority of homeowners in the area must submit protest letters to stop the rate hike.

At 6 p.m., the Santa Clarita City Council will hold a public hearing on a proposed reduction of storm water fees.

The Los Angeles County Flood Control District changed its formula for calculating storm water fees, which resulted in a savings for Santa Clarita homeowner, said Darren Hernandez, Santa Clarita deputy city manager.

A simple majority of homeowners in the area must submit protest letters to stop the fee reduction.

City Hall is at 23920 Valencia Blvd., Valencia 91355.
