Sheriff's deputies arrested a Los Angeles man Friday night after he allegedly pointed an airsoft gun at a woman and then stole her car, said Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's Lt. Mark Hershey.

Hershey said the suspect, Styles Johnson, 19, approached a mother driving with her two teens about 10:20 p.m. on Sandy Drive in Canyon Country.

"He points the gun at her and says, ‘Get out of the car, I want your car,'" he said. "She gets the two kids out, they were 12- and 14-years-old, the bad guy gets in the car and drives away."

The woman then called law enforcement, and sheriff's deputies had the information broadcasted on the radio right away, Hershey said.

"One of the helicopters saw the stolen car going up (Highway)-14 north," he said.

California High Patrol chased Styles, who was speeding, but he crashed into the center median on the highway just south of Soledad Canyon Road about 10 to 15 minutes after he stole the car, Hershey said.

Styles tried to flee on foot but a Highway Patrol officer detained him almost immediately.

"That's when they found the gun and discovered that it was an airsoft (gun)," Hershey said.

After the mother positively identified the suspect, deputies arrested Styles for carjacking, Hershey said.

"Luckily, no one was really hurt," he said.
