Los Angeles County Fire responded to a brush fire that broke out about 6:45 p.m. around the Tapia Canyon and Charlie Canyon area of Castaic.

Frederic Stowers, public information officer for L.A. County Fire, said the fire sent plumes of smoke over the canyon areas visible from Interstate-5. Stowers said County Fire has close to 60 personnel on scene with the help of air support. The fire has burned about 5 acres with no structures threatened at this time, according to Stowers.

He said the fire was 30-percent contained, and that personnel was staying in the area to make sure the fire does not rekindle and achieve 100-percent containment.
